One of the ways that a lot of companies are trying to become more competitive is to offer not only health insurance and dental insurance, but to also branch out and offer eye care insurance. The reason they are doing this is for two reasons. The first and most basic is to be more competitive. Eighty percent of people are going to need glasses or some sort of eye care treatment in their life time. If someone works for a company for thirty years, it can be bet on that within those thirty years, they are going to need some sort of eye care treatment.
The second reason and the more important reason actually connects to the first. It is in a company's best interest to ensure that their employees' eye health is in pristine order. Having poor vision can actually reduce productivity in employees. They work slower because they're trying to focus and they might make mistakes if they are looking at details as small as a computer screen. So, it is important for the company to try and ensure that their employees' eyes are working to the best possible degree.
A study found that when employers provided eye vision care to their employees, productivity shot up eighteen times the amount that it was before these employees got eye care treatment. If this example doesn't show the importance of a company providing eye care, then there was another study that showed that $8 billion dollars was lost in productivity because of poor eye care. What this study found was that there was a direct connection between poor eye care and the level of work that an employee was able to get done.
It really is very simple. Having strong eyes and the capacity to see and interpret is really important to both an employee who is trying to get his or her work done, but also to the employer who is hoping to make some money off of the work that is being accomplished. It doesn't benefit the company for there to be billions of dollars lost in productivity. It might be an expenditure, but providing eye care insurance to employees not only makes you more competitive to get the best employees, but it ensures that the products that you're developing are the best that they can be and that they are getting done as fast as possible.
